More and more, people are using natural skin care recipes for many reasons. The first being the avoidance of using harsh chemicals to care for delicate skin. If you wouldn't eat it, why on earth would you apply it to your skin? Another reason is cost effectiveness. It is often cheaper to mix your own ingredients rather than buying the ready-made products which often contain other undesirable substances.
You can make anything, from facial skin care treatments to masks for skin rejuvenation, to soothing lotions.
Common ingredients in natural skin care recipes include honey, oatmeal, yogurt, egg whites, lemon juice, etc. You probably have most of these ingredients on hand right now.
Make some room in your fridge. Some of these concoctions will need to be kept refrigerated since they contain no artificial preservatives.
I like a nice sugar scrub for exfoliation. It is simple to make, and makes a great gift, too! Just put it in a nice jar with a handwritten label and tie some ribbon around the lid and it's ready for gift-giving. Here's how to make it:
Combine one cup of organic sugar, one cup of oil (olive, grapeseed, coconut - any oil should work), 2-3 drops of a good quality essential oil. There are so many to choose from! Try ginger, lemongrass, peppermint, lavender, or a citrus (grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange) essential oil.
Store in a glass container. When you're ready to use it, just take a small amount of the scrub out of the jar with a spoon. Rub the scrub for about a minute all over your hands (or feet, elbows, or wherever you’d like a little extra softness). Let the scrub stay on for about 3-4 minutes, then rinse it off and pat dry with a towel.
